So did you savor the steamed rice from those amped up rice cookers?

It wasn't exactly the traditional version, but I managed to toss together a fairly decent filling with the ingredients I had on hand. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the rice cooked in the pitchers, but like one of the links suggested, ampullaria is more of a wrapping than anything to be consumed, if you want to eat the pitcher too, it's best to go with a more thin-walled species. The steam makes a close-up a bit difficult, lol. The first bite wasn't bad, but after a couple drops of soy sauce, it was actually a pretty satisfying snack. I'll definitely be trying it again in the future, who knows how many different ways there are to cook with these things!

Now that's some home cookin' there Cole! Any chance you can share your recipe and procedure, so other intrepid cooks might attempt this? dvg

Thanks! I might be attempting this again in a few weeks, I'll try to do an improved recipe and take more pics throughout the process. If I don't get around to that, I'll type out the current recipe, which is okay, but nothing too impressive.

In the south of Thailand we bring Nepenthes pitcher to cook. it should be delicious but I haven't eaten yet. lol We can also bring Nepenthes pitcher to fry. If the pitcher's too thick, it might be too hard. sv1.picz.in.th/images/2021/08/10/2ACW3l.jpg

And thanks for the tip about not eating the pitcher ... ...although the extra fibre is probably welcome in our modern western industrialized diets. dvg
