bonfield: Happy New Year! Jan 1, 2024 0:02:29 GMT -5
dvg: Didn't see any groundhogs... Feb 6, 2024 14:44:07 GMT -5
dvg: Must be either hidin', sleepin' or hibernatin' Feb 6, 2024 14:45:01 GMT -5
johnlloyd: HEY GUYS!!! :) Feb 14, 2024 5:24:43 GMT -5
johnlloyd: I'm looking for perlite free substrate for a reptile terrarium.... Feb 14, 2024 5:26:18 GMT -5
johnlloyd: Will post an update of the ceph terrarium when the lights come on.... :) Feb 14, 2024 5:27:08 GMT -5
bonfield: What reptile will be living in the terrarium? Feb 14, 2024 12:35:25 GMT -5
johnlloyd: Hi Cole :) Its for a crested gecko.... she only eats gecko paste not insects... There will be a minimal amount of gecko poo... thinking mostly tropical plants a some nepenthe... I want to do an upside down tray for drainage like my cephalotus terrarium.... Feb 14, 2024 16:44:58 GMT -5
bonfield: Nice! You could use a mix of coir, peat and/or lfs, and you could add some LECA to the lower layers. A false-bottom vivarium is a great idea, you might want to add an access point to siphon off excess water if necessary as well Feb 14, 2024 16:57:41 GMT -5 *
bonfield: A length of PVC tube positioned vertically and reaching the drainage area can be covered most of the time by a rock or other item, and accessed if there is a build-up of water that needs to be removed Feb 14, 2024 16:59:04 GMT -5
bonfield: You'll also want to deeply notch the bottom of the tube so that water will drain easily into it Feb 14, 2024 17:10:15 GMT -5
johnlloyd: Yes that pretty much what I was thinking too.... :) Im kinda busy for the next week or so, But can I call you soon about setting something up? Feb 16, 2024 5:20:55 GMT -5
johnlloyd: I was just hoping to get a couple decent sized nepenthe and maybe get you to mix up some of the substrate you suggested? Feb 16, 2024 5:25:51 GMT -5
bonfield: Sure, but I don't have any larger Nepenthes that would be budget-friendly at their size, they're all collector varieties. I talked to Marg at Burley's Gardens and they have some larger Neps at very reasonable prices if you just want something bigger Feb 16, 2024 12:49:48 GMT -5
bonfield: How many litres of substrate did you need? Feb 16, 2024 12:50:18 GMT -5
johnlloyd: That's perfect! I will pop in there and pick some up! I am thinking about 4 liters would be more then enough.... I am thinking more toward the 1st of next month? Dose that work for you? Feb 17, 2024 18:16:02 GMT -5
bonfield: We can probably work out an easy pick-up time close to then. Feb 18, 2024 15:46:59 GMT -5
bonfield: In the meantime, I'd suggest also consulting with House of Scales on Chemong(houseofscales.ca) regarding your set-up and materials just to be sure they will work for you, they may have some better options available Feb 18, 2024 15:47:20 GMT -5
johnlloyd: Hey Cole!!! I had some stuff come up.... But I am still trying to set things up.... I got a great deal on some new salt water fish so the terrarium project got put back a little.... :) I will for sure need the 4 liters of substrate!!! Mar 1, 2024 7:36:59 GMT -5
bonfield: Nice! Sounds good, just make sure to check out the substrate options with House of Scales as well, they'll know what's best for your gecko Mar 2, 2024 20:04:56 GMT -5
