Hi meateater , It appears that the kale leaves are afflicted with aphids, especially in your second pic. The aphids can be removed with a gentle stream of water to spray them off the leaves. Check back every few days and repeat if necessary. Aphids can be problematic because the females are parthenogenic, meaning they can give live birth to more pregnant females, in essence skipping the egg laying stage. Ants can also be part of the problem, with their fondness for "farming" aphids, moving the aphids around like livestock from used plant pasture to new plant pastures. Hopefully something as harmless as a few squirts of water will rid you of your kale's pests there meateater . dvg

Thanks dvg! I already tried 'jet' spray them and no luck. Ants is also a problem, don't know why they like my yard so much. I ended up yanking them out and gave space to other plants. The tomatoes are doing great though!

Just sugar plum from last year's left over seeds. I'm surprised they still germinated! Yanked them all out yesterday to prep for winter.
I tried kale again out of curiosity, still plagued by aphids. Threw them all out as well. Sticking with tomatoes next year.
