Sure thing dvg!! These beneficial larvae actually belong in the Syrphidae family (Hoverflies). I'm not exactly sure as to the exact species, so I can only ID them down to Family. A couple years back, I was trying to grow wasabi on my porch, and my plants had several of these Hoverfly larvae, patrolling around eating groups of aphids. I only recognized the critters from the pictures above after spending time watching them transform to their adult stage of their lifecycle. Glad I didn't pick them off to feed my pings!!

Thanks for the ID ellsie . They did seem familiar, but couldn't place where i'd seen them or something similar. Fred Green had posted a hoverfly larva last year here. Sunflower visitors | CARNIVOROUS PLANTS & FRIENDS fredg.boards.net/thread/1034/sunflower-visitors?page=2Perhaps a face that only a mother could love, but i love the fact that they're controlling the aphids on the peppers. This one above had been feasting on whitefly. dvg
