johnlloyd: Hi Cole Its for a crested gecko.... she only eats gecko paste not insects... There will be a minimal amount of gecko poo... thinking mostly tropical plants a some nepenthe... I want to do an upside down tray for drainage like my cephalotus terrarium....

bonfield: Nice! You could use a mix of coir, peat and/or lfs, and you could add some LECA to the lower layers. A false-bottom vivarium is a great idea, you might want to add an access point to siphon off excess water if necessary as well

bonfield: A length of PVC tube positioned vertically and reaching the drainage area can be covered most of the time by a rock or other item, and accessed if there is a build-up of water that needs to be removed

bonfield: You'll also want to deeply notch the bottom of the tube so that water will drain easily into it

johnlloyd: Yes that pretty much what I was thinking too.... Im kinda busy for the next week or so, But can I call you soon about setting something up?

johnlloyd: I was just hoping to get a couple decent sized nepenthe and maybe get you to mix up some of the substrate you suggested?

bonfield: Sure, but I don't have any larger Nepenthes that would be budget-friendly at their size, they're all collector varieties. I talked to Marg at Burley's Gardens and they have some larger Neps at very reasonable prices if you just want something bigger

johnlloyd: That's perfect! I will pop in there and pick some up! I am thinking about 4 liters would be more then enough.... I am thinking more toward the 1st of next month? Dose that work for you?

bonfield: In the meantime, I'd suggest also consulting with House of Scales on Chemong(houseofscales.ca) regarding your set-up and materials just to be sure they will work for you, they may have some better options available
