Sharing shelter with another creature's eight eyes on it might make for some anxious moments, but a mayfly's life is short and a midge lives a bit more by just a smidge... ...laying one's bone-dry lifeless exoskeleton husk to rest in a Sarracenia bloom tomb is rather majestic... ... it sure beats ending up in a swarm pile under a light on some gas station sidewalk. dvg

Thought I'd put this here since I once again have a predator residing amongst predators. Had a brutal thunderstorm yesterday that did a number on some of the small pots I left out (mostly due to them happening to be under a gutter that flushed the pots when it overflowed). While fixing everything this morning, I discovered a little mantis has taken shelter with the plants after I had moved them somewhere less vulnerable last night.

I've never seen a mantis here in S'toon. Wish they were more common, they are so neat. All I have are dozens of little jumping spiders that take care of the mosquitoes on my screen door.

Haha, that mantid makes for a cool crypt-keeper. dvg
