A few more pics of this amazing flower, that was well worth waiting for. It should be noted that this is an easy growing species clone. And it's looking good now, for a second bloom. So definitely looking forward to that! This clone is known to self pollinate and produce viable seed. Though for best seed set, it is advised to manually pollinate the flowers. dvg

My favourite Utric!
I can see why this variety has its own name now.

You really can't go wrong with this clone or species as your favorite Utric. Hal, did you receive this clone from Bonfield yet? It's a keeper! Here is a bonus under the hood shot, for a better peek at those eye-spots. The flowers remind me of one of the spies in Mad Magazine's "Spy vs Spy". dvg

I was playing with some pollen, mostly just trying to get familiar with the flowers and how they work. I guess something went right. The amount of seed that comes from one flower is pretty impressive!
Does the seed store well in the fridge?
Also looks like the plant I harvested from is throwing up a second flower stalk, so I'm looking forward to it putting on a show again!

The "Henri Pittier" flowers were visited by those from the U. alpina x campbelliana clan today. dvg

gj :Congratulations! Seeds of some of the weedier Utrics have a long shelf life, but not so much the orchid Utrics, including alpina. It would be a good idea to use them as soon as possible.

Congrats gj!! I was also surprised to see about the same amount of seed from my first attempt at pollinating the U.alpina that I received from bonfield. Soon after collecting the U. alpina seeds, I sowed them and in less than 2 weeks, I now have a deli cup with small tufts of 'grass'!!

Can't complain about the amount of seedlings yielded by the seed collected in the video above.

Congrats gj, that's great germination with some obviously very fertile seeds. Now just beware of them plotting together to take over the place...they have an extensive underground network, ya know. dvg

Thanks dvg, I'll keep an eye out haha. Though I can think of worse infestations to have.

___Though I can think of worse infestations to have. Oh no, it's much worse than just an infestation - it's more like a full-on insurgency. dvg

The flowers are still going strong. The first flower has been fully opened for over two months now. dvg
