Had noticed the first flower fading a few days ago, but still, having blooms from August that last into November ain't all that bad. They do dry up quite nicely though...looking just like a sunny-side-up egg frying in a cast iron frying pan. dvg

The lasting power of these is pretty amazing! I was planning on letting mine go dry this month, but it has just bloomed again! It's like it knew and threw out a rebellious flower to fight the system haha.

Another one of my strawberry basket experiments. I repotted this guy a few months back and moved it into the humidity dome in the basement where I keep my Heli's because it stays cooler down there, and not only have the stolons grown like crazy, but the sphagnum has also exploded. It's looking so much happier now that I'm not subjecting it to the low humidity and high temps the upstairs rooms often hits (go figure).

It looks like it wants to spit out some flower stalks there gj ! Hopefully they show up soon The sphagnum moss has pretty much engulfed that strawberry basket. That's a lot of stolon growth there, are those long stolons growing free in the bottom of the drainage channels of a 1020 tray? dvg

dvg, yes, the stolons are wandering freely through the tray. I've been giving them a nudge now and then just to make sure they don't find their way into the other pots haha.

Haha, yes their motto seems to be: "Have stolons, will travel to colonize new lands!" dvg

These "Henry Pittier" flowers at this stage of their development are wallflowers, to be sure. They do not stand out at all in a crowd, even these four flowers forming. (middle to lower left) But once opened, they do tend to get noticed. dvg

Amazing flowers! If my wish list gets fulfilled, I'm going to be overrun with Utrics.

Amazing flowers! If my wish list gets fulfilled, I'm going to be overrun with Utrics. If i could only have one alpina, these clones from Henri Pittier Park would be my choice, hands down. dvg

I agree dvg!
I've had both regular alpina and "Henri Pittier" bloom at the same time, and the HP ones were magical!

Yup, seeing the difference between those two in flower tips the scale heavily in favor of HP.
